Camas Swale Classics · The Oz Series, Book 1
A cyclone carries Dorothy and her dog, Toto, out of Kansas and sets them down in a country of talking beasts, walking scarecrows, and witches both good and bad. To get home she must follow the yellow brick road to the Emerald City and ask the great Wizard of Oz for help — and the Wizard, it turns out, wants something first.
Baum set out to write a fairy tale with the nightmares left out, and he wrote thirteen more books about Oz after this one. Most readers never learn that the story goes on. This edition reprints the complete 1900 text as L. Frank Baum wrote it.
L. Frank Baum (1856–1919) was a chicken breeder, shopkeeper, newspaperman, and traveling salesman before he began writing for children at 41. He wrote 14 Oz books, the last published a year after his death.
