Eugene Pioneers: Voices from the Oregon Frontier

Thousands of settlers crossed the Oregon Trail, and many made their new home in the growing town of Eugene: fur traders and farmers, physicians and soldiers, teachers and hotel keepers. Many now rest in the Civil War-era Eugene Pioneer Cemetery. Using archival photos, letters, and public records, C.J. Lake tells their stories, including a frontier doctor who helped found the Eugene Hospital and a judge who helped establish the University of Oregon, alongside the immigrants and Native people whose lives intertwined with theirs.
