Code Talker: The First and Only Memoir by One of the Original Navajo Code Talkers of WWII

Chester Nez was one of the original 29 Navajo Marines who created a code from their own language during World War II, the only code in modern warfare that was never broken. In this memoir, written with Judith Schiess Avila, he recalls growing up on the reservation, being punished at boarding school for speaking Navajo, fighting from Guadalcanal to Peleliu, and struggling to adjust after the war. A moving firsthand account of a crucial and long-secret piece of history.
