Bud, Not Buddy

It's 1936 in Flint, Michigan, and ten-year-old Bud Caldwell, orphaned and on the run from a bad foster home, sets out to find the father he's never met. His only clues are a few flyers for a jazz band led by Herman E. Calloway, and his guide is his own list of "Rules and Things for Having a Funner Life." Funny, warm, and full of heart, this Depression-era adventure won both the Newbery Medal and the Coretta Scott King Award.
