1984 (Plume Paperback)

In the superstate of Oceania, the Party watches everyone and rewrites the past to suit the present. Winston Smith, a clerk at the Ministry of Truth, begins to keep a secret diary and falls into a forbidden romance with Julia, setting him against Big Brother and the Thought Police. Orwell's 1949 dystopia gave the world "doublethink" and "Big Brother" and remains one of the most widely read novels of the twentieth century. This Plume paperback includes an afterword by Erich Fromm.
